This week in the Trotters Times, Sophie; CEO and Founder of Trotters, reports back on her trip to Portugal with the buying team!
What a busy time it has been at Trotters for me and my design team! Last week, we were in Portugal visiting our factories to check production for our autumn ranges and start working on the samples for next summer. Last month, we chose the materials for summer 2016 at a huge fabric exhibition in Paris. We then decided on our colour pallets, and designed the new styles which are now being worked on. Every detail has to be briefed, from the size and colour of the buttons to the number of stitches per centimetre.
We have worked with the same family-run factories for many years. Some are now being run by the fourth generation. They all share our passion for what we do and understand our exacting quality standards.
Here we are at the printers, where one of our designs is being worked on ~
The first samples should reach our office in North Acton within the next month and that’s when the fun and the hard work really starts. It’s a bit like Christmas in April – every time a delivery box arrives containing new samples, the excitement in the whole building is tangible and everyone swarms around it like bees to a honeypot.
While we were in Porto, we visited the factory where the designs on our t-shirts are printed. It is a fascinating and very time consuming task where each colour has to be applied separately. This is a very skilled process where the front of the t shirt is lined up using laser measurements. Even a tiny slip means that the garment is rejected.
This week is another exciting one as we are selecting our new toys!
