Trotters are proud to be a stockist of Early Days footwear, a family run business founded in Leicester in 1952 by two brothers Tony and Michael Bolton. The company is now run by Michael Bolton’s two sons Paul & Chris who are as committed today to UK manufacturing as their father and uncle were over 60 years ago, with their pre-walkers still handmade here in the UK.

As some of you may have noticed, we have had limited availability in the recent months with our Early Days stock availability. We wanted to announce that Early Days stock have now been restored and share the reason behind this.

Sadly, the end June last year the Early Days factory suffered a devastating fire, below are the events from the fire leading up to the first stock arriving back with us in Trotters.

Below is a video from when the Trotters team visited Early Days back in May this year before the fire.

The end of June, Early Days contacted Trotters to say they had a fire and full production area was gutted. Early July it was identified that the fire was caused due to a faulty kettle that had been recalled years ago. Luckily their insurance gives green light to start restoring production. Later on in July, the cleaners were called in for a deep clean the production facility and new machinery was located and ordered. Sadly the suffered many setbacks due to a delay in repairing the building.

With great relief, towards the end of August, the workmen arrive to repair the building. A month later the building is ready to start receiving machinery and they are able to start setting up the factory.

Yet again, in October they encountered further delays, this time with some of the machines which were ordered, including the bonding press and buttoning machines. By the end of October, the bonding press arrives but specialist buttoning machine, which is bespoke made for them in Germany is delayed further. At last, on the 8th of November, production is back up and running.

Come to the end of November we start to receive the first stock in Trotters warehouse.
